Accused of a horrific crime which she would never have committed, Sam is on the run, and has some real soul searching to do. Despite all of the grim killings she has carried out herself, can she find a way to return to Woodbrook and clear her name?

In issue 4 of Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, it felt as if we perhaps discovered the town’s killer an issue too soon, and this fifth chapter does, unfortunately, prove that point.

Though it’s still very strong, it does feel as if some of the wind is taken out of the momentum the series had up until now, and the scenes featuring the ‘normal’ wildlife are a little on-the-nose, and don’t really seem to add much. They’re actually even more confusing at this point, with the lack of explanation for why so many animals are essentially living as humans (in a human-free world), while some are still very much acting, and living, as animals.

I’m still very intrigued by the premise of one killer vs another, especially as we should be equally disgusted with protagonist Sam as we are with her new nemesis. It’s a very clever, emotional trick of the narrative. The art is also, as always, phenomenal.

That this issue is a slight disappointment is only really a testament to just how strong the rest of the series has been so far, so let’s see how well next issue’s climax handles the surprisingly complex situation that has rapidly developed.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
