Backed into a corner, with her dark secret well and truly revealed, Sam will stop at nothing to escape justice for her terrible crimes. Yet she can’t resist taking more of the town’s inhabitants down; even, perhaps, the entirety of the town itself if it means she can get away…
As expected, the finale of this second series is truly explosive, and everything unfolds at a breakneck pace. All of the slow burn from the first five issues (or four at least, given how quickly the situation escalated in the previous issue) really pays off here, with genuinely shocking events occurring in multiple places across Woodbrook.
I’m pleased to say that it’s not a total disaster for some characters at least, which is quite the relief given the dread I’ve felt when we’ve spent so much time getting to know certain inhabitants of Woodbrook.
Does Sam get away with it again? That I won’t spoil, but suffice to say that this is a great read, and though the wider scope of this series makes it a little less focused, and a bit slower paced overall, than the first Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees series, it’s still a gripping, utterly absorbing and beautifully crafted read.
