There was me thinking I’d picked up the first part of a new crossover. Though yes, DC X Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Legion #1 is the first issue of this series, it keeps referring back to a previous Sonic crossover where the video game cast encountered the DC Universe for the first time.

Not that you’re really missing out on anything important; this issue is just one scene after another of a Sonic character teaming up with a DC hero (or villain!). The groundwork is being laid here for a bigger threat for the crossover to really kick off, however; it’s just that this issue feels pretty disjointed and expository, at least until the final scene. Even though it keeps going back to the prior series, it feels as if this #1 issue is determined to re-establish the link between the two universes all over again, along with the fact that the characters already know each other.

There’s some neat team ups though, including Shadow bickering with Robin after Batman calls him with a signal, and Silver pointing out that the Green Lanterns really shouldn’t have to put up with Guy Gardner, given how many humans are already in the Corps.

It’s just about fun enough, and if you’re a big fan of both franchises you don’t need me to tell you it’s little more than that; there’s a thrill in seeing these two very different worlds colliding and collaborating for video game and comic book fans alike. With a less exposition-heavy follow up issue, I’m sure that DC X Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Legion will be much more enjoyable as it progresses.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
