It’s Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary, and he seems to be popping up everywhere in the world of comics at the moment. This time, he and his colourful cast are crossing over with the enormous kaiju of Godzilla’s universe.
Or, more accurately, Godzilla and friends are crossing over into Sonic’s world. In this first issue, a downtown showdown with Dr. Eggman is rudely, loudly interrupted by a kaiju fight. Mothra and Mechagodzilla appear in the city, and Sonic, his friends and their nemesis are equally confused as to who they are and what’s going on.
Which kind of sums up the issue almost entirely. Though also, there’s the fact that Sonic and friends race around to rescue the anthropomorphic animal citizens from being trampled on. And of course Eggman becomes immediately enamoured with Mechagodzilla, while the heroes realise that Mothra may not be the threat she appears to be at first.
It’s a blisteringly paced opening salvo, and there’s no time for unnecessary exposition or lengthy multiversal musing. There’s a fight, the kaiju are there, and it’s all hands on deck to deal with the chaos. And learn a bit about Mothra too!
Though hardly deep in terms of content, it’s exactly what any fans of Sonic and/or Godzilla should be entertained by, and satisfied with. Apart from the fact that Godzilla himself has yet to show up. Though I suspect he’s going to be making an appearance very soon…
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
