Career girl Heather returns to the small town she’s from to attend her father’s funeral. She soon encounters an old flame, who’s gone up in the world since she left. Could a reconciliation be on the cards? So far, so Hallmark movie.

However, the town has a dark secret, one which seems to be closer to Heather than she realises. And it seems that something ancient and terrifying is about to surface…

This is a really neat concept. The formulaic, trope-heavy style of a made for TV movie with almost unbearably self-centred characters returning to their youth and finding themselves, as well as past loves, along the way…becoming an unholy hybrid with flashes of Lovecraftian horror.

It’s even illustrated in a jolly, whimsical way for the most part, with a pastel colour scheme and expressive, almost cartoony characters. Which makes the inevitable, brief horror (at this point) even more effective.

Yes, the main character (and almost everyone else she encounters) is incredibly annoying. We don’t really have anyone to root for here. But surely that’ll make it incredibly satisfying when the titular town’s inhabitants get their comeuppance?

Based on the shocking climactic scene, as well as subtle (and more overt) hints throughout this issue, it seems that some form of horrific developments are in store quite soon for Heather and her friends…
