X and Zero are hunting Mavericks, with increasingly bigger threats being thrown at them. While X tries to unlock his final armour upgrade, Zero takes on the terrifying Sting Chameleon!

There’s a few things that might not sit right with fans of the Mega Man games here. For example, three big Mavericks are taken down in quick succession across just a few panels here, so that the story can hurtle towards X earning his last upgrade. However, you can see why certain choices were made so that we aren’t simply joining the Maverick Hunter duo on repetitive boss fights before the story progresses.

As it is, the story itself is very video game-esque in structure, with the power ups X received as rewards being a great example. Perhaps that’ll change now that he’s fully upgraded and we enter the last few issues.

That said, it’s absolutely not a bad thing that the Mega Man X comics feel like a video game in their structure. After all, the series closely follows the plot of the video games themselves, for the most part, and they do so in an entertaining way, with fantastic art to boot. It’s a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to catching up with the final two issues in the series.
