The past 25 issues of Feral have been incredibly eventful, stressful and horrific for the former house cats dealing with an outbreak of infected animals. This 26th issue is billed as a perfect jumping on point for new readers, but is it? Let’s find out.

Elsie has been separated from the other cats, and finds herself alone in the wilderness with only what seems like a spirit guide for company. Recounting the events of the previous issues as she’s berated by the spirit, she may not be alone for much longer…

Though yes, this issue does go to great lengths to summarise and recount everything that’s previously happened, in a way that’s fairly helpful, I still wouldn’t necessarily recommend it as the very first issue for a new reader.

It simply doesn’t, and can’t, cover everything satisfactorily, but I suppose if a newbie is intrigued by Feral and doesn’t want to commit to anything more than a single issue, this is as good a time as any to jump in.

It seems almost more helpful for those of us who’ve read Feral from the beginning, to get a proper, clip show-style recap before we head into what seems like very intriguing new territory.

It’s also worth noting that the stylised flashbacks are very well done from a visual point of view, and it’s a nicely flowing, if far too short, read overall.

Do we really have to wait a month for the next issue? Though I appreciate that the production of each issue, particularly given the consistently gorgeous art, must be very time-consuming, Feral is so good that I’m very impatient for more, right now!
