I really enjoyed point-and-click adventure Lucy Dreaming, a very British, very witty game from indie developers/publishers Tall Story Games. Released back in 2022 after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Lucy Dreaming was a lovely throwback to the quirky computer adventures of the late 80s and early 90s, featuring gorgeous pixel art and superb animation.

Tall Story Games are returning to the point-and-click arena with Heir of the Dog, releasing on October 29th, 2026. Though it’ll be released on PC (via Steam and GOG) and the App Store first, console releases are planned for the future.

Heir of the Dog’s roots lie in a 2020 Game Jam, which saw Tall Story Games create a fully voiced adventure called Hair of the Dog in just two weeks. With the popularity of this short, free game attracting thousands of players, Tall Story Games were inspired to revisit the concept and expand it, with the similarly named Heir of the Dog.

In Heir of the Dog, players take on the role of the brilliantly-named Cummerbund Bandersnatch, who drinks an experimental “good time” formula, becomes somewhat more beastly, and ends up on a quest to discover why London’s dogs have been disappearing.

Interestingly, the game’s day and night settings, which the player can switch between, will see a variance in the options, characters and locations available to the player. Bandersnatch transforms at night; his more monstrous form is an intrinsic part of the game’s mechanics, opening up new possibilities in exploring, interactions and puzzle solving.

Like Lucy Dreaming, there’s a very Brit-comedy feel to Heir of the Dog, along with inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. Following its own successful Kickstarter campaign, Heir of the Dog is nearing release, and I’m very excited to check it out upon launch!

You can check out the Heir of the Dog trailer here, and see exactly why I’m so excited to take this humourous adventure on a walk through the streets of London:

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
