Vampirella has arrived on Mars, just as Sonja, John Carter and Tarzan are escaping their prison to fight back against the death cult of Therns. The final conflict is here; can our team of scantily clad heroes save the day?
We had three issues where one hero at a time was added into the crossover, and given proper breathing space to be introduced in the process. So it feels like the addition of Vampirella, as well as hitting all the necessary beats to finish the story in a single issue, is far too much to cram into this issue’s pages.
Everything feels far too rushed, and the art falls short from a storytelling perspective on numerous occasions. We’re told that this is a big, epic conflict, but everything feels too close-up and lacking in scale for it to seem that way.
Pretty much all of the characters feel wasted and underutilized in various ways too, and Red Sonja, reduced to constant flirting, just feels insultingly handled as well. No one really seems to do anything that unique, or even noteworthy, to justify their inclusion.
It’s a real shame, because this was a fun and enjoyable crossover, but this issue was incredibly weak and deflating for a climactic chapter.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
