A very Zen, very articulate defender of the forests is the cryptid protagonist of Bigfoot Knows Karate from creators Dan Price and Casey Allen.
As story setups go, this first issue is really impressive. It hits plenty of dramatic action beats and sells its main character as a heroic and determined, if somewhat reclusive, protector – who has to deal with a seriously large, martial arts trained antagonist.
Not only that, but there’s an intriguing human element at play here too – an X-Files style conspiracy is teased and it’s anyone’s guess where it’s going.
It’s genuinely impressive and an awful lot of fun – even as it ends with those aforementioned, tantalising threads of conspiracy dangling.
Thankfully, there’s not long for us eager readers to wait in order to check out the continuation of the story.
Currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, the second issue – Born Under A Bad Sign – promises more cryptid-led, kaiju-style martial arts action – with a side helping of Lost to help the whole glorious dish taste even sweeter.

There’s plenty of tiers available – with digital issues on offer, along with physical editions, variant cover editions, signed copies and more. You can check out the Kickstarter page here.
It’s well worth checking out – especially as stretch goals are on the way, now that the campaign has hit its funding goal. Note that the Kickstarter campaign finishes on Saturday 12th November 2022.
