Billing itself on the cover as The Ultimate Guide to Gaming, the Next Level Games Review 2023 is a beautifully produced book covering the last twelve months of video games.

It’s a surprisingly hefty tome, with an embarrassment of riches within for video game fans of all ages and areas of interest.

Given its cover stars – featuring only the biggest video game characters and mascots – I expected that there’d be no room to feature smaller scale or more varied games within its pages. So I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn’t the case, with an awful lot of space highlighting indie games and more obscure experiences alongside the blockbusters and more familiar franchises from the biggest developers.

Not only that, but each chapter – almost each page – is so jam-packed not just with overviews of games, but with interesting nuggets of trivia, interviews, studio profiles and even, in some cases, helpful glossaries of gaming terms to assist players who might be a little less hardcore – or more accurately, let’s face it, old – as long term gamers like me.

It’s like a year’s worth of magazine content rolled into one volume, with a wide scope and something for everyone.

If you’re looking for a big, info-packed and absorbing read that does its best to cover as much as is humanly possible in just over 250 pages, you’ve come to the right place – the Next Level Games Review 2023 is hopefully the start of an annual look back at each year in gaming. It’s a book I’d highly recommend; it’s beautifully produced and has an incredible amount of content packed into its pages.
