Having passed through a portal to escape hordes of monsters, our heroes find themselves in Water deep, alone with a young woman named Phaelona. It turns out that Phaelona herself needs some help – and she just might be able to assist our heroes in finally escaping the Forgotten Realms and returning to our world. This nostalgic trip back to the 80s animated Dungeons and Dragons TV show is brilliantly done so far.
The dynamic between the familiar characters is really well done and each of them gets a moment to shine. While characters like Presto can often feel a little sidelined, here even he gets an opportunity to be the centre of attention.
Even the possibility of a solution for our heroes to get home is incredibly tantalising; even though a few of them may have given up hope.
Is it bad that, given how long the teens have been trapped in the Forgotten Realms, that I hope they don’t get home just yet?
It’s great to be on another adventure with them after nearly 40 years away; everything about this comic is absolutely tuned into a very specific nostalgia – and I’m not ashamed to say that it hits me right in the feels.
