Can you believe that the Evercade has been around for 5 years? Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday that I was looking at the original handheld reveal and wondering exactly who it was for, given the prevalence of handhelds stuffed to the gills with thousands upon thousands of retro game ROMs.
Yet there’s something compelling about curated collections on physical media, not to mention the reliability and plug-and-play nature of the Evercade; there’s no fiddling about with arcane settings or awkward emulator front ends with Blaze’s console. Everything just works.
And so here I am, five years later, with a complete collection of Evercade cartridges; I’ve never really been in a position to be able to collect the full range of, well, anything, but being there near enough at the beginning means that the steady, staggered release schedule of cartridges is definitely affordable.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the console, Blaze Entertainment have added two new, free unlockable games to their range of Evercade devices.
So whether or not you have an Evercade EXP (or EXP-R), an Evercade VS (or VS-R) or an Evercade Alpha, you’ll be able to unlock these games and keep them forever, for free!
So what can you unlock, and how do you unlock them?

First up is Showdown, a modern reimagining of Atari arcade/2600 classic, Outlaw, for 1 or 2 players. To unlock this, find your console’s Secret Menu (head to the settings on your console’s main screen, then choose Secret Menu). Then enter the code PEWPEW using the onscreen keyboard.
Next up is The Sword of Stone, a retro-styled RPG. Though you’ll also unlock this by entering a code on the Secret Menu screen, the code will be entirely unique to you. So how do you get it?

Well, that part’s simple: to get the code, you need to sign up for the Evercade newsletter. You’ll be emailed your unique code, which can be used on 5 different Evercade devices before expiring.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
