A bit of an odd choice for the sixth cartridge in the blue-box, home computer range of Evercade cartridges, THE C64 Collection 3 takes us back to Commodore’s popular 80s computer for, yes, the third time.
Why is it odd, I hear you say? Well, with this being the sixth cartridge in the home computer range, that means half of the releases up to that point were C64 collections! So it does seem as if the console is, or was at the time of release, overrepresented on the Evercade.
When this cartridge came out, it meant that half of all of the home computer releases were C64 compilations!
However, is this a worthy trip back to Commodore’s machine? Let’s find out.

First things first, there are a generous 13 games included on this collection, which is great. There’s a real variety in terms of genre and style, with some real oddities on the cartridge.
Though there’s no outright terrible games, the quality is questionable in a few instances. That said, the heavy hitters on the cartridge are great; having Heavy Metal Paradroid, Summer Games II and Boulder Dash in the collection alone are almost enough to make it essential.

The other games are varied not just in terms of genre, but also in quality too. Jumpman Junior, for instance, is an incredibly dated platformer, and Deliverance: Stormlord 2 has that classic, unfair level design that was so familiar in computer and console platformers during the 1980s.
The rest of the games (in alphabetical order: Anarchy, Cyberdyne Warrior, Cybernoid II: The Revenge, Exolon, Netherworld, Street Sports Soccer, and Super Cycle) are a mixed bag, and your mileage is very likely to vary.

As with most Evercade retro collections, your sense of nostalgia for certain games may colour your experience with them. I’m not overly familiar with most games in this collection, so I didn’t have any rose-tinted spectacles to view them through; they’re generally fun enough though.
Unless you were a C64 owner back in the day and you’re intimately familiar with most games here, this particular collection isn’t an essential one, but it does have a few stand out titles that really elevate it.
