In an unintended oversight, I’ve somehow reviewed the second and third issues of Conan and Dragonero without having covered the first! So here I am, correcting that uncharacteristic error…

Conan is on the trail of a dragon, and ends up being pulled into an unfamiliar realm with two moons. Before long, he’s crossing paths with a prominent dragon slayer in the world he’s been transported to: Ian Aranill, aka Dragonero.

It’s perhaps unsurprising that English-speaking audiences are unfamiliar with Dragonero, given that this crossover is the first of Ian Aranill’s comics to be published outside of Italy. In fact, this comic was initially released in Italian, in a longer format per issue, and this also explains why the comic feels so abrupt in terms of its ending.

It does help that an interview with the creators of Dragonero, who also write and draw this crossover, appears after the story. However, this opening chapter mostly focuses on bringing Conan to Dragonero’s world without the latter character being too involved in proceedings, allowing us non-Italian readers to catch up a bit on Ian Aranill’s lore!
