Of all the places to learn that you can access the Street Fighter “Hadoken!” (also known as “Hadouken!”) fireball in the Mega Man X games, I didn’t expect it to be in a comic. Yet that just shows how much care and attention Udon give to their Capcom-licensed comics.

So yes, this issue begins with what we thought was a fully powered-up X discovering a secret extra ability: the Hadoken fireball. Learning how to use it is another thing, but X and Zero are about to take on an incredibly deadly, truly vicious villain. And that special move is likely to be needed…

This was a fantastic issue. Though you can hardly accuse any of these comics of having a deep plot, it’s good that they get the necessary stuff out of the way pretty quickly, and truly deliver on the action. There’s also a great deal of character-through-action here, and a surprisingly heartfelt finale to lead us into the final issue.

This has been a really strong series overall, and it’s a real love letter to Mega Man X fans. Though I’m not the biggest expert of the video game series, even I’ve got a kick out of seeing sequences brought to life on the page, and I know enough to be moved by the brilliantly handled climax here.

Hanzo Steinbach’s art is truly phenomenal too, with so much visual flair and superbly rendered action. Though casual fans, or those uninterested in Mega Man at all, might not get much out of the story, there’s no denying how strong this comic is from a visual standpoint.
