Melvin has aspirations of being an infamous serial killer. The problem? He’s so methodical and efficient that no one connects any of his crimes to being the work of a single individual. Enter Kylie, who has aspirations of being a big, true crime influencer. When she connects the dots, she has a proposal for Melvin that’ll change the course of both of their lives forever.

Killer Influences has a really interesting premise, and this oversized first issue gives the story plenty of time to breathe, with enough world building to make it a very compelling experience.

There’s just one problem: it doesn’t feel like there’s anyone to root for, and though that’s not an issue in comics such as Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees (despite lead character Samantha Strong being utterly despicable under her cosy exterior), here it feels as if there should be someone who isn’t opportunistic, or vile, or just an asshole.

That said, there’s still a fascination in following the connection and rise of these two different characters, working together for their own selfish ends. And it’s all very well put together, with excellent art too.

Plus, the premise is so unusual that it’s pretty unpredictable by nature, so where this goes next is anyone’s guess…
