I was obsessed with Scream!, a short-lived, early 80s weekly horror comic, as a kid. Though I only had a few issues of the all-too-brief run, I used to pore over every panel, scaring myself in the process with its kid-friendly, but still scary horror.
Since then, Scream! has returned from the grave several times, with the latest resurrection being the 2026 Halloween Special.
And it’s really good! We kick off with excellent comebacks for The Dracula File and The Thirteenth Floor, both of which were strips in the original comic. These are modern tales though, bringing the concepts of a vampiric government agent and a block of flats run by a protective AI, bang up to date.
Consent Is Key takes a very bleak look at the exploitation of desperate people in a hyper capitalist system, and gives us some very good body horror along the way. Probably my favourite strip of the Special.
The Big Body is a very damp, dank tale of an oddly familiar body being found in a bog. I’m not sure I really understood what happened here, ultimately, but it was incredibly creepy and atmospheric.
Finally, there’s Light’s Out, which had potential but kind of fizzled out too soon; it could definitely have benefited from more pages.
Overall though, the production values are excellent, the writing is of a high standard and the art is very strong throughout. A welcome return for one of my earliest comic book obsessions!
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
