Ever get the feeling of deja vu? I sure did after reading War of the Bounty Hunters #2, which sees Boba Fett crashing the Crimson Dawn auction – where his stolen cargo, Han Solo, is being sold to the highest bidder. Numerous nasty types from a variety of crime syndicates are also in attendance – along with a surprise character or two…

So, ever get the feeling of deja vu? Yep, this is exactly what transpired in Doctor Aphra #12, which also released this week. Though we do get to see events unfold from Fett’s perspective, as well as an ending that throws a spanner in the works for a few familiar faces, it just feels like we’re seeing the exact same events play out in an ever so slightly different way. After the excitement of finding a Doctor Aphra story that stood on its own and functioned as a decent part of the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover, it’s a real shame to find that, if you’d skipped it and just picked up this issue of the main series instead, you’d have missed out on very little indeed.

Still, we do get a few extra threads here – and in Aphra’s issue, there’s a much better build-up to a certain character’s entrance. It’s just a shame that both issues cover so much identical ground in their pages.

  2. […] It’s been a fear of mine since reading the ‘Alpha’ Prelude issue and noting the intimidating number of chapters that the story would take place across. Unfortunately, those fears have been well-founded so far, with only a handful of issues feeling essential to the crossover as a whole and several events simply repeated from slightly different viewpoints, again slowing down the tale, as well as giving the feeling of repetition and deja vu.
