The slapstick-and-action B-movies starring duo Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill will be pretty familiar to lots of people who grew up in the 70s and 80s. From Westerns to contemporary cop comedies, the duo always got into action-packed, humourous scrapes involving legions of bad guys to punch their way through.

So it made perfect sense for their first ever video game – Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill in Slaps and Beans – to be a side scrolling beat ’em up full of references to the prolific duo’s films.

The warm critical and commercial reception that greeted the first game was great to see too; it shows that, even though their movies are decades old, they still remain beloved by legions of gamers of a certain age.

That success has meant that a sequel is now on the way too, with Slaps and Beans 2 due for release in early 2023 for Switch, PS4, PS5 and Xbox consoles.

The press release reveals, “Slaps and Beans 2 builds on the success of its predecessor with an enhanced combat system, fun mini-games, more detailed pixel art, a co-op mode, and a dedicated competitive party mode for up to four players.”

Though arguably it looks a bit like Slaps and Beans 2 is more of the same, that certainly didn’t hurt Spencer and Hill’s movies, many of which followed a basic formula very successfully for many years.

Fans of the iconic duo should get just as much of a kick (and numerous punches!) out of the sequel as they did with the first Slaps and Beans; it’s definitely one to keep your eye on.

Physical special editions will also be available from gamesrocket, though it’s too soon for the details of those to be revealed at this stage. Watch this space!
