The first Atari Arcade collection for Evercade was pretty cool, though with the games being as ancient as they are, quite often they were much more dated in look and feel than the majority of the Evercade’s library.

The same applies to this second collection, which is mostly made up of not Atari, but titles originally published by Stern. As Stern’s back catalogue is now owned by Atari, that’s why this cartridge has been given the Atari branding.

So on here are 10 very old arcade titles, with the standouts, in my opinion, being the superb maze games Berzerk and its sequel, Frenzy.

There’s an admirable attempt to replicate the 3D arcade backdrops of games such as Dark Planet, but the game itself has a steep learning curve, and ultimately doesn’t feel worth the effort.

Moon War is an Asteroids-esque title that’s not bad, Lost Tomb and Maze Invaders are both so-so maze games, Tazz-Mania feels a bit Berzerk/Frenzy-esque (but you’ll probably end up playing those instead), and both Rescue and Minefield are decent rescue ’em ups with neat effects.

Fire Truck is so old it’s in black and white. A top down driving game, it’s no fun without being in the oversized arcade cabinet, though it’s a neat historical curio at least.

So, a very old school collection of titles here, somewhat confusingly named (seriously, this should have been Stern Arcade 1!). It’s not bad, and the few absolute classics do elevate it, but there are generally much more satisfying and enjoyable arcade collections in the Evercade range.
