On a mission to investigate a distress signal from a technologically lacking planet, the crew crash their ship. As the dangerous creatures on the planet’s surface draw closer, the crew will need to try and work together to survive. However, with bigotry and distrust on full display, it may be the case that their bickering will seal their fate…

CJ Durbin and JR Turvey’s story, based on a TTRPG campaign (specifically from the game What’s Old Is New), develops in some interesting ways here. The Deep Space Nine-esque setup gives way to, if we’re going to continue the Star Trek analogies, a more Away Team mission-style narrative.

Yet you haven’t seen an Away Team arguing and throwing insults (and rocks) at each other like this motley group do. Nor is it likely that you’ve seen someone on an Away Team have such a catastrophic lack of self-belief as one of the characters here.

It’s interesting that just about all of the main characters here have at least one flaw, and that aforementioned racism means that they’re not all good people, by any means.

There’s a clever, highly amusing visual homage to Mortal Kombat here that I have to mention; it all adds up to an interesting, enjoyable read. Given the developments in the last few pages, where the story is going is anyone’s guess, but I look forward to finding out!

Many thanks to JR Turvey for providing me with a copy of Another Space #2, which I’m reviewing extremely belatedly (again: sorry about that, JR!).

You can buy Another Space #2 from Dicepool Party’s official website, Mike’s Comics in Bristol or from JR Turvey himself if you happen to bump into him at a Con, which I’ve done myself on numerous occasions!

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
