In this issue, the World Warriors from Street Fighter and the supernatural menagerie of Darkstalkers must find a way to stop fighting if Chicago and its inhabitants are to be returned to Earth. Who is behind the scenes, pulling the strings? The secret will be revealed!

The longer Udon’s crossover series, Lords of the Makai, goes on, the more incoherent it feels. Is that because of its sprawling cast, dragged from the massive rosters of not one, but two different fighting game franchises? Perhaps, but it also doesn’t help that the plot is practically non-existent, and there are characters and sequences which seems to just appear out of nowhere.

This is never more apparent than the moment werewolf Jon Talbain attacks in one panel, and is completely in human form in the next panel we see him in, with no hint of a transformation shown or implied.

Still, it’s as gorgeous to look at as you’d expect from Udon, and even differentiates itself from the studio’s usual style with a much more cartoony and stylised aesthetic. There’s some great, really satisfying moments with characters announcing and using their special moves against each other too.

The reveal is a bit underwhelming, but it’s pushing us towards the next and final issue. I expect we’re in for an action packed but just as messy finale; stay tuned for my review!

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
