Years after The Blast, an event which spread a virus which turned normal people into zombie-esque creatures known as “Sick”, John and his teenage daughter Sarah emerge from hiding to look for supplies. Danger is ever present in the post-Blast world for John and Sarah, and as is to be expected, the Sick are pretty much the least of their worries.

This is a very well constructed story, which hits the ground running in brutal fashion, with John and Sarah’s first terrifying encounter with other people. We’re slowly drip fed looks at their life before The Blast; not just at what led to the event itself but also at the dynamics of the family before everything truly hit the fan.

There’s definitely more than a touch of The Last of Us in here, with the father/daughter dynamic and ever present threat of other people, as well as the infected who are easier to deal with, frankly.

That said, the disease which creates Sick seems to be very easily transmitted, and this becomes a surprising detail this early on in the series.

Created by writer Lane Fortenberry from his earlier audio drama, this four issue adaptation gets off to an incredibly compelling start, with two great lead characters and a world full of danger and poignant details, which keeps the reader very invested in the outcome.

Matías De Vincenzo’s art is beautifully expressive and has a nice level of detail, with an almost scratchy art style that perfectly suits the material.

The Day Everything Changed #1 is an excellent read, and I can highly recommend checking it out. The wait for issue 2 is going to feel like a very long one, particularly in light of #1’s cliffhanger…

The Day Everything Changed #1 is available to buy now via Riffage Media’s Ko-fi page. Many thanks to Lane Fortenberry for providing me with a digital copy of the comic for review purposes.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
