Imagine being a teenager who can call upon the powers of the ancient spirit protector of Singapore, turning you into a powerful hero, along with a talking feline companion who serves as both historian and guide. Yet despite this ability, you still have to juggle all of the challenges of youth; passing exams, making time for your friends and keeping your parents off your back.
That’s the reality facing Jayden Lee, who’s trying to keep track of other Spirit Beasts, as well as stop the nefarious activities of his snake-powered nemesis.
Creator Kang Jing has crafted a vibrantly colourful, fast-paced and appealing comic with Lionborne. This second issue functions as a great jumping on point if you haven’t read the first issue, with flashbacks to fill in some of the details we weren’t privy to in issue #1. There’s a bit less emphasis on the wealthy, snake-infused villain, William Ashford, but his presence is definitely still felt, looming mostly in the background.
The Singaporean mythology and setting gives Lionborne a unique flavour, and it’s really interesting to see a superhero story emerge using these underrepresented elements. Though I’d recommend reading issue 1 if you can (it’s also a great deal of fun!), if you can only get your hands on issue #2, you won’t be lost.
Lionborne #2 is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, and has already hit its funding target. You can pledge for the comic and various other add-ons here.
Many thanks to Kang Jing for providing me with a digital copy of Lionborne #2 for review purposes.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!
All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
