When the Horned Gophers are threatened by a terrifying beast, the tribe’s chief, Keruk, is determined to protect his people and their livestock. Young Tenya claims that she is in possession of magical powers and can provide invaluable assistance on Keruk’s mission, but she’s not taken seriously at all. However, chief Keruk is about to learn some very important lessons from Tenya as the dangerous hunt unfolds…
This first issue of Tenea is beautifully told, both in terms of its script and its phenomenal artwork too.
There’s a lovely texture to the visuals, by the mononymously-named Misagi, which have a gorgeous, painterly look in places and a more hand drawn aesthetic in others, particularly during action scenes.
That said, there are a few moments in those action scenes where the art didn’t quite convey what was happening. However, other than a very specific few panels which were confusing from a storytelling perspective, the art is hugely impressive throughout.

Writer Ivan Buhancov’s story treats Native American culture, the mythology and folklore very respectfully. Even though magical abilities and super smart animal companions feature (in a very Disney-esque way), those fantastical elements don’t feel out of place.
This opening issue’s story is called Heart, and that feels really apt too. Characters are expressive and emotive, and the tale is involving, full of empathy and (yes) heart.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!
All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
