As Ben struggles to deal with his transformations, cousin Gwen discovers something odd about their grandfather. Speaking of whom, grandpa Max Tennyson stumbles upon the military operation that’s tracking the extraterrestrial activity in the woods, and they also learn that Max is more than he seems…

This second issue of Ben 10 follows immediately on from the first, slightly modernising the origin and making it a little grounded and more gritty in the process. I bet you would never expect to see body horror and gore in a Ben 10 comic, would you? And yet…

Admittedly, it’s quite mild. That said, it’s still a shock to see poor Ben’s transformations having such a painful effect on him too. As for the gore, well that’s a very surprising element!

I did balk a bit at a Ben 10 comic being rated Teen, but it definitely makes sense now. The creature design is phenomenal, with more detail added to Ben’s forms, a much gnarlier look for the aliens in pursuit of him, and a more biomechanical style to the Omnitrix.

It’s a really good comic, all told. And this one has a great cliffhanger too. Who’d have thought a darker, more mature take on Ben 10, of all things, would work so well?

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
