There’s a dedicated Transformers store in the converted innards of Battersea Power Station, part of a jaw dropping, huge shopping centre that now takes up plenty of space within the cavernous facility. It’s full of unique merch and very cool stuff, but one of its most interesting exclusives is the Battersea Power Station Titan, known as Powerplex.
That’s right, Battersea Power Station itself has become a Transformer, featuring on t-shirts, pins, posters and other exclusive items (including an upcoming Powerplex model kit). The story of Powerplex has recently featured in an oversized volume, with a comic and behind the scenes material regarding the Titan’s creation.
It’s quite the collectable item in its own right. The book has seven variant covers, with the ‘main’ cover having a print run of 2600 copies, and 400 each of all the other covers. It’s embossed with an image of Battersea Power Station too, as I’ve tried to capture in my photo above.
The story itself is a fun, albeit throwaway, little adventure which sees Autobots and Decepticons forced into a temporary alliance to stop Powerplex from destroying London, and has a silly twist which explains why Powerplex hasn’t been mentioned in any other Transformers lore.
It’s pretty accessible even if you aren’t a Transformers die-hard, and features lots of very familiar characters along with Powerplex himself. It’s refreshingly standalone, so casual fans or collectors can pick it up and read it without needing to immerse themselves in Transformers continuity, contemporary or otherwise.
Written by the absolutely legendary Simon Furman (very well known for decades of contributions to Transformers lore, mostly in the comics medium), the art is by a selection of artists who are also known for their Transformers work, providing a few pages each of the briskly told, action packed and relatively short story.
The behind the scenes material is excellent too, and overall this is just a really nice addition to any Transformers fan’s collection. It’s only available from Battersea Power Station (though you can order online if you can’t make it to the store), and the limited edition nature of the book makes it even more desirable.
You can buy the Powerplex book from the Transformers Store at Battersea Power Station, or from the store’s official website.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
