I have a confession to make. Once I started playing FAIL GAMES, a collection of 50+ mini games which each use just one button, I couldn’t stop. Why? What’s the secret to its addictiveness? Let’s find out!

In each stage of FAIL GAMES, your little pixel person is competing in a sporting event, or attempting a stunt. All you need to do is time their dive, launch, jump or other method of movement, so that they hit the target.

Using just one button, you’ll generally charge up and then let go, timing it to avoid moving obstacles,.and so that you soar past any dangerous object that could impale or otherwise kill your fragile little human.

The problem? Extremely precise timing is required, and you will fail, over and over again. The speed of each attempt and the instant restarts give it a hugely compelling quality though, and each time you’ll think you’ve cracked it only to be brought crashing down to Earth by something you haven’t foreseen, like an errant seagull.

It’s fast, it’s frustrating, it’s hilarious and somehow, this combination of elements makes it hugely compelling. Despite the fact that you’ll be thwarted potentially hundreds of times, with each attempt taking just a second or two and the game having instant restarts, you always convince yourself that you’ll succeed if you have just one more go.

Succeed in one event and you’ll unlock more, with lots of inventive, varied stages to succeed, or more likely fail, at.

You’ll also unlock items in the shop as you go, and you can add different levels of gore, various costumes and other stuff, such as visual filters to make it look even more lo-fi than it already does.

It’s all really good fun, very addictive and extremely well put together, with lots to unlock and a very clever application of what’s ultimately a hugely minimalist approach to its mechanics.

It’s surprising how much variation there is in the one button approach, and the genuine wit and humour that FAIL GAMES is infused with only adds to its seemingly endless charm.

FAIL GAMES is available from the 4th of November, 2026 on Steam. Many thanks to CROCFISH for providing me with a game key for review purposes.
