A quarter of a century ago, Sutton Reed headed to a cabin in the woods with her friends. She was the only one of them to survive a horrific massacre, and has lived with survivors guilt, as well as plenty of suspicion from friends and neighbours, ever since. What really happened in the cabin, and how is it connected to more, new deaths and disappearances?
Written by Ryan Parrott and brilliantly illustrated by Letizia Cadonici, It Killed Everyone But Me starts as a seriously unsettling horror mystery, with a real sense of dread permeating every page. Though it becomes less effective in its second half, when it trades that unease for a more explicitly horrific, graphic level of horror, the story still feels unpredictable, and I found myself absorbed until the end.
There’s some great character work here, particularly with the protagonist, and the plot revelations build up right into the climax via flashbacks to the original massacre.
It’s a shame that the level of tension isn’t sustained throughout, when it shifts to a more action-oriented approach, but there’s still plenty of disturbing imagery and themes to keep you awake at night.
The intriguingly open end of the story hints at a very different sequel, if one is planned. All in all, It Killed Everyone But Me is an effective and brutal horror comic, with much that lingers in the mind long after reading.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
