Borg Queen Agnes believes she has a solution to the devastating effects of the Burn: she’s going to assimilate a singularity. Or is she? With the resurrected James T. Kirk in the mix, she might find more resistance to her plan than she expected. Is that resistance going to be futile?

This was a really strong issue, and I say that after being pretty disappointed with The Last Starship overall. Hernan Gonzalez’s dark, scratchy and yet realistic art is fantastic, though there are a few closeups of faces which bear the unmistakable hallmarks of photo referencing (sometimes even of people who don’t resemble the characters; why does Agnes look like Sigourney Weaver in one panel?) which let it down a little.

We finally get a bit more justification for Kirk being involved in this whole saga too, though I’m still not entirely convinced that his role couldn’t have been filled by Sato in some way. This issue does at least go too good lengths to properly justify Kirk’s role and personal history here though. There’s also a very well done subplot about crew mate Vi carrying a big, very hidden secret, and the payoff to that is huge.

Not without it’s faults then, but The Last Starship #8 takes some big steps in the right direction, and actually makes me excited to read the next issue.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
